About Me

Karina Bouffard, MD, MPH is a fellowship-trained, double board-certified physician in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine at the Shirley Ryan Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾¡¯s Pain Management Center. Since 2014, she has specialized in interventional pain management, with expertise in fluoroscopically guided injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, neuromodulation and procedures for cancer-related pain.

Dr. Bouffard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and serves as Program Director of the PM&R Pain Fellowship. She is passionate about education and mentorship, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in advanced pain procedures, neuromodulation, and interdisciplinary approaches to chronic pain care.

Her academic work includes peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, national presentations, and funded research focused on interventional pain procedures and long-term functional outcomes in patients with chronic pain. She is also actively involved with the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, including contributing to board examination writing and oral board administration.

With a background that spans nursing, public health, PM&R residency, and fellowship training in Pain Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Bouffard brings a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to pain management. Her clinical philosophy emphasizes functional restoration, evidence-based interventional treatments, and interdisciplinary care, with the goal of helping patients reduce the impact of pain and return to the activities and quality of life that matter most to them.
